Your voice is important

Launched on 27 January 2003, one of the Zimbabwe Fund's objectives was to persuade the English Cricket Board on ethical grounds to move the Harare Game on 13th February 2003 to South Africa.

England eventually pulled out of the match on security grounds, while Zimbabwean cricketers Henry Olonga and Andy Flower disregarded their own security to protest against the abuse of human rights in Zimbabwe (see Brave Duo).

The Zimbabwe Fund is intended to:

  • Show moral support for Henry Olonga and Andy Flower in their brave protest against the treatment of Zimbabwe's people.
  • Demonstrate grass roots opposition to the Mugabe regime.
  • Let ordinary Zimbabweans know that their plight is being heard.
  • Persuade international leaders to take a more active role in ending the starvation of over 7 million Zimbabweans.
